Barbara Svetlick - Sculpture Glass Artist

I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers. - Claude Monet

GLASS SCULPTURES AND PAINTINGS
PAINTED BOTTLES AND SCULPTURES

My greatest mentor is my husband, Lewis Wilson, and I am his greatest fan.  So many of my new work is in collaboration with him.

Lewis' work can be found at  LewisCWilson - he sells his work either by commission or off the website through his email using paypal or credit card.

When I lived outside of Washington DC as a teenager, I would often
go into town on the weekends to hang out around the mall
and museums - during the spring we would fly kites and have a picnic
between the Washington Mounument and Lincoln Monument
I loved the green space so much more then the now 'over crowded'
monuments that have been erected though I understand
wanting to remember those who mean so much to our country.
We would hop on the bus and spend the day just
enjoying great weather and seeing new exhibits then I would
get a bundle of fresh cut daisies to take home
This bottle is 12 inches tall - hand painted
and then glass daisies are inserted into the cork.

Someone asked me why I painted glass bottles
and it is because I can...I actually collect small medicine
antique bottles with my family name embossed on them but
I just love glass bottles.

Hand Painted Bottle Everglades
Hand Painted Odd Bottles

I scour thrift stores and garage sales with a list
of things to turn into art
These two bottles are about 8 -10 inches high
they have been sand blasted
before I paint them
This is the first two of a series
of small bottles
that will make up an odd bottle collection.

Handpainted Wine Glasses
Handpainted German Wine Glasses

These would have been easier to create had I actually opened
a bottle of wine before I started
but I did put the Eagles on the Ipod and had
a bowl of little tangerines
to keep my energy levels high.

I bought a set of German Wine Glasses
that have a beautiful 'tink' when you accidently hit one
against the other then I began to paint
them with glass enamel paints on the outside
of the glasses.

My son wanted Sea Turtles
so there is one on each glass along with
sea grass and other sea creatures.
I love painting on glass.

OUT OF THE BOX EXHIBIT 2008

The Out of the Box Exhibit is a 6x6x6 inch wooden platform with a plexiglass top.

I created the cherry blossoms, leaves and bumble bees from glass.  The wooden base is painted as an antique open book the top is painted in deep rich color with cherry blossoms then overlaid with velume paper that has the first page of my book "The Visitor" printed on it and dedicated to my favorite artist and musician.  It's busy, it's whimsical and it's as romantic as a quiet little tear that runs down your cheek begging to be touched.

My inspiration always comes out of the music I love and paintings that I collect.  I believe the soul of an artist is always seeking to hear the passion of like souls and to them I thank because I love each of them for sharing so much.

This sculpture is used in the Bead & Button Show Newsletter about the exhibit and the GAS Resource Guide 2008.  It is my first attempt at creating a multimedia sculpture that incorporated my glass flowers but it is still the one piece that holds my passion and heart.

This is the first set of flowers that were juried into a book, the Bead Review II in 2006.  I save all the work that is juried even those pieces that didn't make it.  This is a combination of the different shades of Bullseye Purples and powdered glass.   It has been begging me to create a necklace so I think I should at least consider it.
What Time Is It
This is a whimsical piece with Mexican Paper flowers and a pocket watch from my Heermance family which ties the flowers in with my love for genealogy.  I have been a genealogist for almost twenty years and belong to an extremely large group of cousins who are just cool!
